The Spa at the Herrington

Sometimes when you search long enough, a truly unique Spa experience can be found close to home. That is why I was unusually pleased to receive a series of services under the radar Spa at the Herrington. This Spa is not located along the shores of Geneva Switzerland it is instead located within a charming hotel on the “shore” of the Fox River in Geneva, Illinois.

This sixty-one room hideaway is near the historic part of Geneva within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and shops. Let us start with the overall ambience, since a Spa experience is all about ambience. When we first arrived at the main entrance, you enter thru French Country doors that open to a room with warm, earthy colors walls with massive stone flooring which creates a French country elegant. Just off to the side of the main entrance, is their award winning restaurant Atwaters. Many food critics have raved about the Steaks and service. To the right of the restaurant is a cozy lounge and fireplace. It is a place to stop for a glass of champagne pre or post Spa services!

There are two entrances to the Spa. One is thru the side entrance, and the other is thru the Main Hotel entrance. When we arrived at the main entrance we were directed to go thru several hallways that connect to the Spa desk. Along our journey we had the opportunity to view some of the room categories. Some of the rooms have fireplaces with over-sized whirlpool -bath, other rooms have river views with canopy beds and private balconies. One of my favorite categories is the Herrington Suite. This is their most luxurious corner suite, overlooking the Fox River with King -size accommodations, fireplace, private balcony, heated marble floors and so much more!

The Spa desk is located on the ground level. We receive a warm greeting and were asked us to complete a brief health profile. One of the ladies escorted us to the second level where the Spa treatment rooms are located behind security doors. The attendant puts her security key to unlock the Woman’s lounge area equipped with a private shower, private locked lockers, and plenty of Spa creams and shampoos. The Spa robes are of very high quality of silk and cotton with soft cushy fluffy white slippers! Now the test comes. You are lead into a quiet, dim lit, cozy lounge area with comfortable chairs, magazines, and light refreshments. My husband enjoyed the waiting room massage chair set in a small enclave with a plasma TV. This state of the art massage chair, costs around $3,000 could be programmed by the user for surprisingly effective rub down. My Spa attendant Michael Kilberry guided me to one of the treatment rooms. The Spa at the Herrington has a total of four rooms (one can accommodate a couple, a must experience for honeymooners and lovebirds celebrating, well frankly anything)! My deep tissue massage lasted about one hour. I awoke with an awe feeling of gratitude, and knowing that a true professional exist in the Western Suburbs!

I have written previously about Spas in Europe and around Switzerland, but the Spa I am longing to return to is a small, easily missed, highly professional operation within the Herrington Hotel in Geneva Illinois.
